Huckleberry
Hunting (Alison)
Also
known as “The Wild Goose Shanty” or “Sing Hilo, Me Ranzo Ray,”
it’s been used for almost all jobs aboard huckleberry picking. Other
words in the verses suggest a Down East or Nova Scotian influence.
However, even more could be said about the words we don’t sing, for
the sailors’ versions were often highly bawdy and ribald!
